Q: How do I decide if a titanium or zirconia implant is better for me?
A: Everyones body is different. One example might be you choose a zirconia implant instead of titanium if you have metal sensitivities. At your comprehensive exam appointment you can discuss the differences with Dr. Lai and see which option works better for you and your body.
Q: What does Dr. Lai mean when she says implant crown?
A: The implant crown is what we think of as the tooth part of the implant and is a separate piece from the implant itself.
Q: Will I get my implant crown at the time of the implant?
A: No. The crown is something that is attached three to six months after the implant is placed. This is to allow for appropriate healing and integration into the bone.
Q: When will I get my implant crown?
A: This is different for each person as everyone has a different rate of recovery, but typically after about three to six months of healing. At that time, an appointment will be made for you to come in with your general dentist to get an impression. That impression will be sent to the lab so they can fabricate the implant crown. Approximately two weeks later you will get the implant crown.
Q: Who places the implant crown?
A: Dr. Lai does not place the crown. This part of the procedure is performed by your general dentist. Dr. Lai will let you know when you are ready for this step and refer you back to your dentist.
